Well, I'm new here, so I figure I'll tell a bit about myself.

I'm Anni. I'm 18, a senior in high school, and I played in my school's Pit for all 4 years. The first 3 years I was playing marimba (except for one song I had to play bass drum and triangle on) and this past year I was played the xylo. Hopefully I'll be able to keep playing in college, especially four-mallet stuff. I learned a little this past year, but haven't done as much with it as I'd like.

Hopefully I can save up enough to buy a marimba or xylo of my own someday.

Guess that's it. :) See you later.

Ok just wondering if anyone is still here??? Just need some advise. Our tympani player, who is a frosh, needs some help and he is really close to quitting. what can we do? he is so thick headed that he won't listen to us. we can't loose him cuz he plays the whole first and second productions. and we are already halfway through the season, we can't afford to brake in a new tympani player right now.

Yesterday me and Jenn marched in the Memorial Day Parade in town. Drumline/Pit marched and played pretty well, I think, considering that our section leader and drum instructor were both MIA. We marched four snares, three basses, two cymbols, two finger cymbols (me and Jenn), and a tambourine. Lol, yay for improvising.

We just started practices for the new season, Jekyll and Hyde. Hopefully it'll turn out good, because acording to recent pattern, it's our year to win Best Percussion at chmpionships. We'll keep our fingers crossed.

All for now,
Theresa

I've been a member of this community for a week or two, so I figured that I should post a little 'hello', finally. :)

So, hello. I'm Amanda and I'm in the ancient grade of twelve and I play pit percussion in my band. In other words, I ding the triangle, hit the gong, fondle the wind chimes and all that fun stuff. My band director has dubbed us the 'accessories' of the band.

Our show this season was Disney's Fantasmic, which was so incredibly awesome, considering that I'm a huge Disney geek. Good times, friends. Good times.

Band Banquete [Feb. 26th, 2005|07:05 pm]

Last night was mine and Jenn's (user:bomberbabe08) Band Banquet. I had such a great time, and it was great getting to see everyone together again. Our drumline/pit instructor made us all shirts that say "Minion" because we call him the devil, and we're his minions out to do his bidding, lol. And we all got Evans keychains, too.

We also found out the show for our new season....JEKYLL AND HIDE! I'm not very familiar with it, but I've heard the music is amaizng, so I can't wait. Our instructor has already told us that the mallet solo is already written, and that it's super fast. His wife actually told me, "When I heard the mallet solo, the first thing I thought was, Those poor girls!". Lol, but I can't wait to try it out.

That's all for now, adios.

Hugs,
Theresa

(i posted this over at pit_kids too, so i appologize if you've already read it.)

Hey y'all. Hope everyone's holidays went well.

In the aftermath of christmas, i find myself with several checks from various relatives with no clue what to get me. I have decided with these checks to finally purchase some mallets of my own (i've been living off the schools for all my life.)

I was wondering, what are some good starters for someone planning to play in percussion ensembles in college? Like, what are some standard mallets i should have? I mostly play marimba, but occasionally xylo and bells, and rarely vibes. I dun like pedalling.

I'm looking mainly at getting Innovative Percussion, as that's what we use at school and they seem to hold up pretty well, but i'm open to suggestions of other fine companies.

Thanks for the advice,
~Jewel

Well...hi.

Well, with marching season over, I'm not technically in pit anymore...but, frankly, there's just no escaping (not that I'd want to!). Let's see...this season went pretty well, despite the fact that well more than a quarter of our unit was made up of rookies (aye!). We somehow managed to finish the season in pretty good standing...top ten for our group, top three drumline. Unfortunately, I'm not able to do indoor this season (*weeps*), but the show's still going to be awesome - and I have the convenient excuse of my brother being in the pit this season to tag along.

Gee, it's nice to be able to talk pit and band stuff...most times, people's eyes just sort of glaze over.
