Ok just wondering if anyone is still here??? Just need some advise. Our tympani player, who is a frosh, needs some help and he is really close to quitting. what can we do? he is so thick headed that he won't listen to us. we can't loose him cuz he plays the whole first and second productions. and we are already halfway through the season, we can't afford to brake in a new tympani player right now.

my advice is to ask your band teacher what you can do. maybe some people from pit can help him out in any way. just whatever you do, don't give up yet.

don't worry my section went through the same thing. well sort of.

just give up on the timpani player. Good Luck!

gah

Wow. I have a similar situation. I have a Bass and Gong player that is in 7th grade. (Yeah he's so annoying and immature I can't stand it) We don't need him but my instructor doesn't want to throw any keyboard players off their instruments to go hit a gong for a measure.

Anyway enough about me....Im kind of confused about your situation though. Is the timp player close to quitting because he hates it , or doesnt understand, or because he's no having fun? You said he is thick headed and wont listen to you... which means you guys dont like him either huh. WHat a bummer.

hey, if he isn't listening to the rest of the section, get your section leader or instructor involved. with such little time left in the season (only three weeks for my band!) you should tell him that it wouldn't make sense to have put in all this time and effort to quit now. good luck.

Rogue Percussionists...AGH!

Another person that shares the same problem. We have an aux player that thinks he's "holier than thou" and ignores any comment made to him, and our instructor have even considered cutting him for our winter percussion season. He just won't listen. Talk to your instructor. He/she should be able to do something.
